Making Your Dogs Food More Palatable
We all know the picky dog who will put their nose up to the tastiest food. If your dog is sick that is one thing but if they are naturally not inclined to eat unless it contains very specific ingredients there may be some ways to combat that.
Dogs are very attracted to anything with a potent smell. Adding in some hot water with their kibble can enhance the smell and entice them to eat. If you want to take that up a notch, adding in warm bone broth is an excellent source of additional protein and may make your dog more inclined to take a second sniff at their food.
In addition to the bone broth or warm water, you can also consider adding in plain Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, or even some eggs. All these things have a smell that a dog is attracted to. They may associate it with getting some of your food and if they are beggars will make them more inclined to eat their food. Greek yogurt offers dogs probiotics which can improve their digestive health. It also provides calcium which is great for their bones and teeth. Cottage cheese is very similar to the benefits of Greek yogurt and is also known as “recovery food.” This means that it can be beneficial to your dog after a big surgery because of the extra protein and nutrients it offers.
Finally, eggs can provide your dog with omega 3’s and 6’s making it ideal for keeping their skin and coat healthy. Eggs also have a ton of vitamins, minerals, and are considered a high-quality protein.
Additional protein can make your dog's diet more palatable as well. A high-value topper such as our Mighty Bite pucks that come in a variety of clean protein can entice your dog. After cooking our pucks, there is usually some juice left in the pan or plate and of course the delicious puck. Adding both the puck and the juice can attract your dog to eat their food with vigor.
